Volunteering

Volunteering with YHA is a fantastic way to have fun, learn new skills, boost your CV and travel to different places. We have a variety of different opportunities to choose from and volunteering roles to suit everyone.

The tasks are varied and in return you will meet some great people, who both work and stay in our hostels, as well as enjoying your time off discovering the local area and attractions.

This hostel is part of our Volunteer Managers programme. Find out about becoming a Volunteer Manager and supporting our small hostels.

History

In 1947, YHA’s Merseyside, North Wales and Isle of Man Group opened a simple type of hostel at a hill farmhouse in the Carnedds hills above the village of Roewen. The hostel could accommodate 13 men and 12 women and was named the Harold Burrows Memorial Hostel after a tireless worker for the YHA regional group. The hostel has had many renovations over the years, making the hostel more refreshing and modern for its visitors.

Meet the team

YHA Rowen is staffed by our dedicated team of volunteer managers – YHA enthusiasts trained to deliver great customer service with a personal touch. One of them will be at the hostel each week to take good care of our guests.

Manager recommends: A walk-up Tal-y-Fan – summit an (easy) mountain in Eryri (Snowdonia) from the doorstep and view the peaks and coastline of North Wales.
