Supporting people

At YHA, many of us are teachers. Many more are parents, juggling home-schooling and work.

All of us are passionate about connecting people – especially children and young people – with nature, the outdoors, culture and heritage. Because we know that these things are vitally important to improving health and wellbeing.

As home learning continues many schools are developing ‘non screen’ days – giving staff and pupils a break from the phone or laptop and supporting learning to continue through connections to art, nature, the outdoors or social action.  For example, Headteacher of The John Wallis Church of England Academy, Damian McBeath has introduced an IGNITE day at their school. The purpose – to get their students to stay off screens for a day, win awards and connect with the world where they live.

Our YHA Activity Pack provides a wealth of content for offline learning and fun that can be done from the kitchen table and in the great outdoors.  The YHA 90 sets a list of non-screen challenges for 2021.

We want to help parents and teachers in every way we can. Whether it’s a chance to get crafty with the kids, disconnect from digital for a bit, get hands-on with gluing and sticking, gain skills in stargazing or learn a few facts about nature, we hope you have fun!
