Pilgrimage social walk from YHA South Downs
Overview
Friday 13th September 2024
Distance: 9 miles
Duration: 7 hours
Led by: Dawn Champion, British Pilgrimage Trust
This mini pilgrimage is a ‘Bring Your Own Beliefs’ journey for anyone who wishes to find their own meaning and connect with the landscape - for all faiths and no faith. We will follow some of the Old Way, an ancient route from Southampton to Canterbury, crossing the South Downs and pausing at a number of places with historical, natural and spiritual significance.
The walk will end at Lewes Priory, to walk in the footsteps of 11th century Cluniac monks, and from there it’s a short train ride back to the YHA for a well-earned free cuppa and cake.
This walk is in partnership with YHA's Festival of Walking - view other social walks.
What makes it special
- Discover holy and historic sites, wildflower folklore and natural beauty
- Opportunities for silence and barefoot walking
- Free cuppa and cake at the finish
