Geography field trips

Great geography options in England and Wales

Student looking at bottle with grass sample

Explore national parks, coastlines and human geography with YHA.

We are lucky to have hostels in locations that align perfectly with geography topics and we use this to its very best advantage.

Whether it is AQA, EDXCEL, OCR or Eduqas, or a self-led or tutored opportunity you are looking for, we probably have more geography options available than you think! We also offer tutored courses from a number of our Lake District and Peak District hostels through our delivery partnership with the Field Studies Council and Peak District National Park.

This enables schools to bolt-on additional tutored courses to cover certain aspects of the new specifications, provide local knowledge or expertise and qualifications where needed.

Inspiration for your next geography field trip

Coastal processes, landforms and management

YHA's locations are ideally suited for making the most of England and Wales's physical landforms. Ideal for KS2 studies, we offer a YHA-led geography package at YHA Castleton Losehill Hall and YHA Malham. Our residential packages offer a range of educational activities including detailed work on map skills, navigation work, GPS trails, river investigations, river stream studies and tourism.

Glaciation and cold environments

We have a number of hostels situated in great locations to study the effects of glaciation on our landscape. YHA Eskdale and YHA Borrowdale are both located in glaciated valleys with a number of easily (and not so easily) identified glacial features only a short walk from the hostel door. In Eryri (Snowdonia), YHA Snowdon Pen-y-Pass can be found at the very base of the majestic Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

Urban studies, regeneration and place studies

YHA have a number of well-located city centre hostels where human geography studies can easily be carried out covering a range of specific specification requirements. Combine your human and physical studies by splitting your trip and stay two nights in one of our Lake District or Peak District hostels and then two nights at YHA Liverpool Albert Dock.
