Social walk from YHA Ilam Hall

YHA Ilam Hall exterior

Overview

Sunday 15th September 2024

Distance: 10 miles

Duration: 6 hours

Led by: National Trust

An adventurous full day’s walk through the stunning White Peak. We’ll follow the River Manifold to the magnificent Thor’s Cave, with its huge arched entrance visible from the footpath below, before continuing to the picturesque village of Wetton. From there it’s across to the opposite side of the Manifold valley for a return to Ilam.

Bring a packed lunch for a picnic stop. The route is hilly with stiles and some sections are on quiet lanes. Paths are likely to be muddy in wet weather and there may be cattle grazing. Thor’s Cave can be easily accessed from the path, but great care should be taken in exploring – there are very steep, unguarded drops from the entrances, and surfaces can be slippery.
