YHA Wasdale Hall is a beautiful 1829 half-timbered National Trust-owned property. The hostel offers quality accommodation and still retains many original features including a grand fireplace, paneled walls and an open fire. Perfect for walking retreats.

Where you'll sleep

Across the entire building there is a total of eight bedrooms.

First floor

Three rooms that sleep up to 4 people each. They include 2 sets of bunk beds.

Two rooms that sleep up to 5 people each. They include 1 set of bunk beds and a high sleeper bunk with a double bed underneath.

Two rooms that sleep up to 6 people each. They include 3 sets of bunk beds.

One room that sleeps up to 8 people. It includes 4 sets of bunk beds.

A cot is available.

Shared spaces

Kitchen and dining

The small kitchen is located on the ground floor and includes a range of conveniences listed below.

Kitchen appliances: fridge/freezer, grill, 2 kettles, microwave, 2 ovens, 2 refrigerators, stove, toaster.

Kitchenware: dishes and cutlery for 42 people, kitchen utensils, pots, pans.

Cleaning basics: anti-bacterial spray, cloths, paper towels, sponges, washing up liquid.

Located on the ground floor, the dining room seats up to 30 people and has views directly over the lake.

A highchair is available.

Lounge

The lounge is located on the ground floor and seats up to 25 people. There are comfy leather sofas and armchairs, plus window seating. The impressive open fire surround was originally part of York Minster. You can relax in the evening with a wide range of books and board games.

There is a separate games room on the basement floor including a pool table.

Bathrooms

Across the entire building there is a total of six bathrooms.

Toilet paper is provided and hand soap is available next to all sinks.

Outdoors

Outside consists of some grounds. Guests have full access to the grounds.

YHA Wasdale Hall is set right on the shore of Wastwater, England’s deepest lake, from the hostel you can see the expanse of the lake plus the awe-inspiring mountains beyond - perfect for getting away from the pressures of everyday life and relaxing in beautiful surroundings.

Sleeping arrangements

Most of our bedrooms are dormitory style rooms with bunk beds. We always try to allocate bedrooms close together and will never ask your group to share bedrooms with anyone not in your group.

Upgrades are available for sole use of an area, floor or the entire place.

Shared spaces

Although built in the 1820s, our hostel offers a meeting room, games room and fully licensed bar. Activity groups and school trips can spread out in our social spaces or cosy up next to our log fireplace. There’s a wide range of books to read too.

Group catering

With tasty breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals, groups are sure to find something delicious to eat at YHA Wasdale Hall (see sample menu).

Meal plans range from bed and breakfast up to full-board catering. Vegetarian options are available and we aim to cater for any special dietary requests.

Reception hours: From 07:30 - 10:00 and 17:00 - 22:00.

Food and drink: Breakfast is served to guests daily from 07:30 – 09:00. Meals are also available from 17:00 – 20:00.

Licensed bar: This hostel has a licensed bar offering a range of alcohol and soft drinks. It is not possible for guests to bring their own alcohol, except when hiring the whole hostel through YHA Exclusive Hire.
