This 19th century country manor is every bit as grand as its name would suggest. This Cumbrian hostel is often cited as a favourite due to the impressive nature of the building, not to mention its breath-taking scenery which has earned the title of 'Britain’s Favourite View'.

YHA Wasdale Hall is set right on the shore of Wastwater, England’s deepest lake, from the hostel you can see the expanse of the lake plus the awe-inspiring mountains beyond - perfect for getting away from the pressures of everyday life and relaxing in beautiful surroundings.

Our mountainous surroundings make us ideal for climbing and walking groups or you could try watersports, just a stone’s throw away. Scafell Pike is only a few miles away if you fancy taking on England’s highest mountain too. Enjoy!

Sleeping arrangements

Most of our bedrooms are dormitory style rooms with bunk beds. We always try to allocate bedrooms close together and will never ask your group to share bedrooms with anyone not in your group.

Upgrades are available for sole use of an area, floor or the entire place.

Shared spaces

Although built in the 1820s, our hostel offers a meeting room, games room and fully licensed bar. Activity groups and school trips can spread out in our social spaces or cosy up next to our log fireplace. There’s a wide range of books to read too.

Group catering

With tasty breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals, groups are sure to find something delicious to eat at YHA Wasdale Hall (see sample menu).

Meal plans range from bed and breakfast up to full-board catering. Vegetarian options are available and we aim to cater for any special dietary requests.

Hostel need to know

Reception hours: From 07:30 - 10:00 and 17:00 - 22:00.

Food and drink: Breakfast is served to guests daily from 07:30 – 09:00. Meals are also available from 17:00 – 20:00.

Licensed bar: This hostel has a licensed bar offering a range of alcohol and soft drinks. It is not possible for guests to bring their own alcohol, except when hiring the whole hostel through YHA Exclusive Hire.

Self-catering : Guests have access to a self-catering kitchen.

Parking: There is parking at the hostel.

WiFi: Free WiFi is available in social spaces.
