Pilgrimage social walk from YHA Cambridge

YHA Cambridge exterior

Overview

Friday 20th September 2024

Distance: 4 miles

Duration: 3 hours

Led by: Guy Hayward, British Pilgrimage Trust

A guided walk with Water Sensitive Cambridge exploring the city’s visible connection with water and its local rivers. But the relationship with the River Cam is not an easy one, as the town sits in an area that is water-scarce and receives less rainfall annually than drought-stricken Barcelona!

So how does Cambridge cope with pressure from a growing population and what has been the effect on nature and the flow of the precious local chalk streams? The walk will start and finish at YHA Cambridge and visit places of spiritual significance around the city, as well as exploring the River Cam and following the path and stories of Hobson’s Conduit, the ‘new’ river dreamed up in the late 1500s to bring pure, clean water into the city.
